SCHOOL FOR CHANGE

OUR
MISSION

To make education a force for peace
and sustainability
in the Middle East

WHAT IS EMIS?

The Eastern Mediterranean International School (EMIS) is a unique international boarding high school with a mission of making education a force for peace and sustainability in the Middle East.

Located in Hakfar Hayarok, a youth village and an educational campus at the center of Israel, EMIS fosters intercultural understanding and promotes personal and social leadership.

Through a shared two-year educational and living experience EMIS educates
towards values of respect, diversity and glocal citizenship. Our students, Israeli, Arab and inational, complete the rigorous two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program and participate in a rich extracurricular and community program.

OUR STUDENTS

Our students, in 11th-12th grades, originate from over 40 countries worldwide.

The student body's composition includes 20% Israelis, 20% from Arab and Muslim countries in the Middle East, and 60% from the rest of the world, making EMIS a truly international learning experience that empowers young globally oriented leadership.

EMIS students are selected from within their own countries and are admitted on the basis of merit. Admitted students are offered need-based full and partial scholarships.

All students live in the EMIS residences on campus. This experience enables them to form friendships that bridge nationality, race, culture, religion and politics.

LOCATION

EMIS is located in Israel in the Middle East, a region that has both much to offer to and so much to gain from such a school.

The EMIS campus is part of Hakfar-Hayarok (Hebrew for “Green Village”), a premier environmental leadership school and a youth village.

Hakfar Hayarok offers a safe, secure and a rich learning environment while allowing direct contact with outside Israeli and Palestinian communities.

Students and staff have full access to the village’s extensive educational, sports, music and arts facilities and leverage its broad activity offerings.

THE IB PROGRAM

Students choose one course from each of six academic groups.

Two languages (first and acquired), Humanities, Sciences, Math and Arts. Three courses are taken at the Standard Level (150 hours) and three at the Higher Level (240 hours).

Students study and take examinations in English.

Additionally, all students complete a course in Theory of Knowledge and write an Extended Essay, a 4000 word dissertation on a subject and topic of their choice.

The program is completed with a rich offering of Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) activities that enable all students to participate in arts, athletics and service to others.

EMIS offers a very wide range of CAS activities including Model United Nations, Glee Club, Journalism Club, Theatre, Rock band, Robotics, Creative Writing, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Martial Arts, Eco-Peace and more.
